Updates for Spotify Discovery Mode

Updates for Spotify Discovery Mode

Today we have some brand new updates regarding Spotify’s Discovery Mode for you. Starting April 2024, you will be able to set up your campaigns for Discovery Mode in your Spotify for Artists account.

Keep on reading for more info on how this will work and for the new eligibility criteria for Discovery Mode.

Rebeat is a distributor that is participating in Discovery Mode in Spotify for Artists. This means that if you meet the artist and track eligibility criteria for the tool, you may be able to set up and manage all aspects of your Discovery Mode campaign directly in Spotify for Artists. You will receive an email from Spotify once you have access to set up a Discovery Mode campaign in Spotify for Artists.

How Discovery Mode works:

Discovery Mode gives artist teams the opportunity to influence Spotify’s personalization algorithm in select personalized listening contexts. When Discovery Mode is turned on, it increases the likelihood – but does not guarantee – that songs reach listeners in these contexts. Participants are able to turn Discovery Mode on or off for any track that is eligible.

How to set up a Discovery Mode campaign:

  1. Log in to artists.spotify.com.
  2. Go to Campaigns and Discovery Mode.
  3. Click Set up [month] campaign.
Note: You can set up a campaign between the 11th of the month and 12 AM UTC on the last day of the month.
  4. Select the songs you’d like to include.
  5. Review your campaign and click Submit.

Campaigns start at 12 AM UTC on the 1st of the following month. You can make edits to your song submissions up until 12 AM UTC on the last day of the current month.

Updated eligibility criteria:

  1. You have at least 3 eligible songs.
  2. You have at least 25,000 monthly listeners.
  3. Content: Spotify is evolving from track-level eligibility (i.e. track URI) to recording-level eligibility to help ensure they are taking a more expansive view of the music that is eligible to use Discovery Mode. Note that partners will continue selecting tracks rather than recordings during the campaign creation window, but they aim to move to recording in the coming months.
  4. Song age: Spotify is updating the content age requirement from “the track has been released on Spotify for at least 30 days” to “at least one track in the recording group has been released on Spotify for at least 30 days”.
  5. Song’s Streams: Spotify is updating the streaming requirement from “the track has been streamed in Discovery Mode contexts in the last 7 days” to “The song has more than 20 streams in Discovery Mode contexts in the last 28 days”. This will help mitigate potential volatility during the campaign setup period, reducing the possibility of music falling in and out of being eligible for Discovery Mode, and helping ensure more stable campaign performance.
  6. Policy: Once Spotify implements its monetization eligibility criteria, Discovery Mode will be available for recordings that meet that criteria in the previous month.

Updates to Campaign Duration:

  • Artists will now be able to choose between the current one-month duration or an ongoing duration for Discovery Mode campaigns. Campaigns will be set to the “ongoing” duration as a default. This means campaigns will run indefinitely without a specific end date, unless an artist decides to change the duration or turn off their campaign.
  • Regardless of the campaign duration selected, artists will be able to update their campaign duration at any time in their campaign settings, and they will still be able to edit their track selections during the campaign setup window each month.
  • Spotify will continue to email artists each month when the campaign setup window opens, to remind them they can make edits to their track selections and campaign duration.

Update to Discovery Mode Contexts:

  • Spotify is expanding Discovery Mode to Spotify Mixes, which will include Daily Mixes, Artist Mixes, Mood Mixes, Decade Mixes, and Genre Mixes.
